SCREAM Craze Returns To Vancouver This July!

(Vancouver, BC) On Saturday & Sunday, July 25 & 26 from 1-4pm, Vancouverites are invited to participate in an open studio photographic session of SCREAM. Subjects of all ages will have a rare opportunity to step in front of the camera lens and let it rip with passion! A SCREAM flash mob will follow on Wednesday, July 29 at 6:30pm at a Vancouver downtown location to be announced.

SCREAM breaks the confines of socially acceptable behavior, giving participants a unique glimpse into the uncharted areas of the human psyche. The project was created in 2005 by Vancouver-based photographer Wendy D ( when a frustrated fellow artist expressed his need to scream. “I agreed to do it and then was surprised by both the reaction of my subject and by my response to capturing this process,” recalls Wendy D. “That got me thinking about the complexities of scream both as an individual act and the constraints society imposes on the expression of it,” adds Wendy D. This no borders project, which explores human vulnerability and transparency has captured over 150 subjects expressing exuberant joy to profound fear. SCREAM has been profiled on CTV and has been showcased during the Eastside Culture Crawl (2005), 10 Year Retrospective – Mainspace (2011), Precarious Balance – The Cultch (2013), and After Hours – Capture Photography Fesitval (2015).

Capturing images since the age of 11, Wendy D is an artist and board member of the Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators (CAPIC) whose commercial photography portfolio includes George Stroumboulopoulos (CBC), Julie Carpentier (CBC Radio-Canada), Vicki Gabereau (CTV), John Glover (Smallville), Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle), and Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot. Wendy D’s Underwear Project (2004) garnered national exposure on CBC’s late night arts show ZED. Subsequent photographic exhibitions include Innate (2006), Perspectives (2008), Bald (2009), and Artists In My Studio (2010). Wendy D who is the 2012 recipient of Women in Film and Television Vancouver’s Sharon Gibbons Lifetime Membership Award continues to mentor, teach, judge, and collaborate in the film, television, arts and culture community.

SCREAM open call session (Saturday & Sunday, July 25 & 26 from 1-4pm) will take place at Mainspace, located at 130-350 2nd Avenue East, Vancouver. SCREAM flash mob (Wednesday, July 29 at 6:30pm) location details will be announced on Tuesday, July 28 at For more information on SCREAM, contact Wendy D Photography at 604.763.1451 or by email at

SCREAM provides the viewer with an insight into a primal human urgency, captured in a brilliant and unique way.”
